LeaderSTATE STAFF MEMBER
LeaderSTATE staff are an integral part of the staff of the within the Division of Access, Opportunities, & Success. LeaderSTATE reports directly to Office of Pre-College Opportunities & Programs. Staff handles assisting high school students who are attending leaderSTATE STEM camp and exploring what it’s like to be a college student at MSU. As a member of the LeaderSTATE staff you will be required to attend mandatory summer training.
JOB DURATION AND SALARY
The LeaderSTATE Staff will take place June 2024 through July of 2024. The LeaderSTATE staff receives compensation up to $900 weekly pending the fulfillment of responsibilities as a LeaderSTATE staff.
ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS
LeaderSTATE staff positions are available to full-time sophomores, juniors, seniors and seniors who will be enrolled as a full-time student for the 2024-2025 academic school year.
DUTIES
LeaderSTATE staff work with the Office of Pre-College Opportunities & Programs staff to provide programs and services for summer camp participants. The LeaderSTATE staff also will be expected to lead campus tours, organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities, assist in facilitating life skills and leadership learning activities for camp attendees, attend weekly meetings, serve as a resource for prospective students, work with a diverse group of individuals and perform additional duties as required by the staff. Furthermore, LeaderSTATE staff must attend a Summer Retreat/Training, held at Mississippi State University. Along with these requirements, LeaderSTATE staff will follow guidelines and perform activities as directed by the Associate Director of the Office of Pre-College Opportunities & Programs.
LeaderSTATE staff will handle fulfilling the follow responsibilities:
- Provide a constant positive example of direction and support for one 6 - student team.
- Assist in facilitating life skills and leadership learning activities for camp attendees.
- Fully engage in and assist with all activities and tasks associated with leaderSTATE camp week including, but not limited to, check-in and check-out procedures, meals, wake-up/bedtime routines, meetings, leadership development activities, daily physical training, outings, preparation for presentations and tours.
- Communicate needs and progress of camp attendees through active feedback during daily and weekly camp staff meetings as well as conduct final camp evaluations to improve camp quality.
- Assist in developing and implementing additional camp supplemental activities, teaching materials or evaluations as needed.
- Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities. Activities may include crafts, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, and physical exercise. This includes time spent on the bus.
- Communicate with Residential Coordinator and Residential Instructor about participants’ behavior and experiences.
- Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to, being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
